The canton of Mirecourt and aéropôle de Juvaincourt assemble around 400 craftsmen,
industrial and commercial firms.
The industrial activity in the urban area of Mirecourt is centred on the transformation of wood :
two firms have approximately 1,200 employees and produce thousands of kitchen and bathroom
units every day. Craftsmanship is well represented by stringed-instrument and bow makers.
A firm of 40 people also makes 80% of the world requirements of bridges for string instruments.
The tertiary activity is mainly traditional shops, superstores and the service industry.
There are 188 permanent establishments covering all activity sectors of commerce and crafts
in Mirecourt. The main characteristic of Mirecourt commerce is the almost complete absence of
superstores in the town centre.
An INSEE investigation held in 1997 revealed the attraction of the town of Mirecourt with a
population of 10,035 inhabitants in the municipalities.
The catchment area of Mirecourt covers the territory between Charms, Dompaire, Vittel,
Gironcourt sur Vraine and Tantonville (54).
A weekly market takes place on Saturdays right
in the town centre (Place Jeanne d'Arc). It has the
same six itinerant traders, with other activities
from time to time. There is also a monthly fair
organised on the Place des Halles as well as
periodic commercial events.
To work out a strategy for energising commerce and the craft trades, the union of tradesmen in
Mirecourt and the town have decided to launch an operation for restructuring the craft trades and
commerce (O.R.A.C.). This operation will create a real force for cooperation between the various
local players and institutional partners: state, region, regional delegation for commerce and the
craft trades, chamber of commerce and industry, and chamber of trades. Significant finance by
these partners, covering up to 80% of expenses, ensures the success of these ambitious and
innovative projects.

Events and structural activities, in the context of this operation, have been set up by the
commercial and craft professionals and the town of Mirecourt.
